Call to Action based on Key Findings of the AMSI-MATRIX Research Investment Report 2024

AMSI-MATRIX Call to Action
28 August 2024

MATRIX is Australia’s residential research institute for the mathematical sciences, and critical national research infrastructure.

Our Call to Action, based on a joint report with the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI), evidences a lack of accessibility by mathematical science researchers to the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), lack of accessibility to a variety of Australian Research Council (ARC) schemes and a significant reduction of Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) investment.

Australia needs to urgently reverse this trend if it wants to remain competitive at a global scale and develop sovereign knowledge and capability. The value for money of mathematical sciences research has never been greater, yet investment in mathematical sciences research in Australia has sunk to critical lows.
