Congratulations to Professor Alison Etheridge – Appointed Inaugural President of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences

MATRIX congratulates Professor Alison Etheridge OBE FRS on her appointment as the inaugural President of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences  (AcadMathSci) in the United Kingdom.

The AcadMathSci will “…be an authoritative and persuasive voice for the whole of mathematical sciences….This includes teaching and education, academic research pushing the frontiers of what is known, and the implementation of the mathematical sciences in practice.” [AcadMathSci]

Alison is Professor of Probability, Fellow by Special Election at Magdalen College, University of Oxford and a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). Her research interests can be roughly divided into the three interconnected areas of infinite dimensional stochastic analysis, mathematical ecology and mathematical population genetics.

Alison was a highly valued member of the MATRIX Scientific Committee from 2017-2023. Alison’s expertise and standing in the mathematical sciences community helped guide MATRIX to achieve its aim of becoming an internationally leading research institute in the Asia-Pacific region.
